At Wetley Moor, we believe tourism should have a positive impact on the animals in our care, the landscape around us and our local community.

From protecting Wetley Moor and making the most of our animals' natural resources to supporting schools, hospitals and community groups, we're continually looking for ways our little farm can make a difference.
CARING FOR WETLEY MOOR
Wetley Moor Common isn't simply the backdrop to our experiences – it's a place our team know, love and want to protect.
​
The moor is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), recognising the importance of its habitats, wildlife and vegetation. We encourage our guests to enjoy this special landscape responsibly, following established routes and minimising our impact as we explore.
​
Our Walk Leaders regularly collect litter while out on the moor and keep watch for signs of fire or smoke during periods of increased wildfire risk.
​
Our treks also give us the opportunity to share our love of the moor with visitors – from the wildlife we encounter to its changing seasons and the spectacular purple heather that transforms the landscape each year.
NOTHING GOES TO WASTE
ANIMAL WELFARE COMES FIRST
Our animals aren't simply part of our business – they're at the heart of it.

Our team are trained in animal welfare, husbandry and handling, with ongoing practical training covering the everyday health and care of our animals. Walk Leaders know the animals individually and guests are carefully matched according to temperament, suitability and established friendship groups.
​
Animal welfare always takes priority over the experience. Our animals' behaviour, health and individual needs determine how and when they participate.
A HOME FOR ANIMALS THAT NEEDED ONE
A number of the animals now living at Wetley Moor have come to us needing new homes. Our collection includes rehomed and previously unwanted animals, from rabbits and tortoises to pigs, ponies, horses and donkeys.

Where suitable, some now play a part in helping visitors learn about and connect with animals through our experiences.
SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITY
BRINGING A LITTLE BIT OF WETLEY MOOR TO THOSE WHO CANNOT VISIT US ​​​
Every year, our animals leave the farm to bring a little bit of Wetley Moor to people who may not be able to visit us themselves.
This year, we've visited 5 hospitals and 20 care homes, bringing animal interaction to patients, residents and staff across our local community.
Our regular visits include Royal Stoke University Hospital and the Douglas Macmillan Young Adult Unit, and our contribution has been recognised by Royal Stoke through its EPIC Awards.
LEARNING OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM

We have welcomed over 120 young people through educational visits, giving children and young people the opportunity to experience learning outside the traditional classroom.
​
We work closely with a local school supporting a high number of pupils with additional needs through Feel Good Fridays, providing opportunities to spend time outdoors, interact with animals and develop confidence in a different environment.
​
We also work with local home-education families, using the farm and its animals as a setting for practical learning.
